IWSR Footplate

footplate experiences

For that special occasion, a very special gift or to satisfy a dream, the Isle of Wight Steam Railway is delighted to offer a unique footplate experience.

For the price of £80.00 you will enjoy a full round trip on the footplate of the day’s service locomotive.

Following a briefing you will join the footplate crew. For approximately one hour you will stand alongside and observe the driver and fireman as the locomotive travels 10 miles through beautiful Island countryside.

After your trip you will receive a souvenir certificate to mark your experience.

Full details are below. To enquire further or to book the experience please telephone Liz Tagart on the Events Team at the Railway on 01983 885924 (direct) or 01983 882204 (general number).

To be able to join us for this Experience you must:

* Be in good health and reasonably fit (i.e. able to climb on and off the locomotives from the ground)

* Arrive at Havenstreet Station Commercial office 30 mins before the departure time

* Wear good footwear that will protect your feet

* Wear clothing that fully covers your arms and legs

* Not attend the experience under the influence of alcohol or drugs

“Thanks ever so much for organising my dad's footplate experience this morning.  He had a great time and said that the drivers were very knowledgable and hospitable.”

Kind regards, Lynsey Seal
